A Changed Life!

Last year, we met William, a friend of one of our weekday volunteers.  For years, he had been an extremely successful software engineer and businessman, managing numerous employees.  However, William has suffers from major depression, an illness so debilitating that two years ago he simply walked off the job and began to rarely leave his apartment.

Beginning last June, William began to come more regularly to participate and help out in the Community Life Center.  Slowly, but progressively, we began to see him blossom as he lovingly and artfully engaged with the other Community Members.  Therefore, in the fall, William moved to Oak Cliff and we hired him to work in the center providing computer education through one-on-one mentoring relationships.  Each day, it is a joy to see him patiently working with Community Members, gracefully teaching basic computer skills and lending a helping hand.  Today, William testifies to the healing power of community and the relationships he has formed at the Well

Thanks!  Thanks!  Thanks!!!

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe… Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 12:28, 13:15-16

Without your sacrifices and the good you share, the Well Community would simply not exist!  Therefore, we appreciate you, our Community Friends, for the love, gifts, time, and energy you share on our behalf.  Thanks!!!

Build the Support!

Please prayerfully consider including the Well in your monthly budget!

In December 2001, a handful of people gathered to start a new expression of God’s work in our neighborhood.  Over the course of the past five years, it has been amazing to witness how God has taken our humble efforts and has begun to mature the members of the Well Community in his wisdom, love, and joy.  As we look back and celebrate the accomplishments of 2006, it is with gratitude that we acknowledge God’s favor on the Well as established through your financial contributions.  Therefore, please receive our heart-felt thanks!

In late November, I informed you of the Well’s financial situation.  Thanks to you, we ended the year better than expected with almost $30,000 being given in December alone!  However, the total giving in 2006 fell short by $25,000.  Therefore, I ask you prayerfully consider your gifts to the Well Community in 2007.  To help meet our budgeted requirements of $15,000 per month, please consider pledging your support for the year, becoming a monthly supporter, increasing your total giving by 25%, and/or asking a friend to become a support of the Well

We need your financial supportthe Well is a grassroots movement of people caring for others; therefore, every gift is significant.  Therefore, please be in prayer regarding your giving.

Anticipate additional information on the following:

  • Adopt-a-Community-Member – Our Christmas gift program was so successful, we are working on a plan to partner interested volunteers in a mentoring program with one of our Community Members.  The plan would involve training, and we are investigating using COMPEER, a nationally recognized mentoring program for those with disabilities.
  • Artreach – We have applied to Artreach, whose mission is to ensure access to the arts and cultural events of our city for economically disadvantaged adults, the disabled and elderly.  Their Community Events Program will allow our Community Members, and sponsors, to attend a wide variety of arts and cultural events throughout our city free of charge.
  • 5-Year Anniversary Celebration – Yes, five years!  Therefore, we are planning a party later in the spring to celebrate!
