...engaging people with mental illness in a life-giving community of peace, love & hope

Our Programming

Through all of our programs, the Well Community seeks to engage people in a life-giving community.  Therefore, these programs are people and relationship focused.

The best way to understand the programs of the Well Community is through a tour.  We welcome visitors; just give us a call to set up a time to meet.

Program

Description

Saturday

Night Life

Saturdays

4:00-7:00pm

A weekly, culturally relevant worship service, including times of singing, prayer, Bible teaching, and encouragement.  Each week, small groups from various local congregations join with us to provide and serve a hot meal, and interact with the Community Members.

Community

Life Center

Tues, Wed & Thurs

9:00-3:00pm

The center serves two purposes: (1) a place of sanctuary and belonging, and (2) a resource center.  Love, hope, and purpose are imparted at the center through unstructured time and carefully planned programming.

Community Members have very few places to belong; therefore, our center serves as a “living room” for our community – a place to “hang-out” and be known.

Scheduled activities include support groups (e.g., mental health, addiction), spiritual formation (e.g., optional morning prayer and weekly Bible studies), recreational ventures (e.g., arts & crafts, games, field trips), and vocational training (e.g., in-house positions, computer training).

Residential

Programming

For those we serve, the chance of obtaining and/or retaining safe, decent, and affordable housing is difficult. Therefore, assist our Community Members in securing appropriate housing. In our supportive housing program, we assist higher functioning individuals in securing private apartments. At Jacob’s House, we run a more structured program, currently housing 10 individuals in a group/community format.

Case Management

Due to a stretched public system, many of our Community Members are in need of additional case management assistance.  Weekly, we serve an approximate 10 people in this regard.  Our individualized services focus on teaching the client how to obtain needed material requirements (e.g., applying for food stamps, clothing assistance, housing referrals, connection with family members, doctors and other healthcare providers).

Community Awareness

& Education

As a part of our mission, we seek to inform, serve, and resource the greater Dallas faith-community, believing that every congregation in our city is affected by mental illness.  We regularly receive referrals and queries from consumers, congregational leaders, and family members about mental illness.  Our future plans include the hosting of a faith-based conference on mental health and spirituality.
